CREATING AND INSPIRING TOMORROW'S LEADERS today

LARRY LITTLE

Larry Little began his pro football career in 1967 with the San Diego Chargers. In 1969, Larry was traded to Miami where his pro football career flourished. In Miami, Larry immediately won the starting right guard position and played a key role in the Miami Dolphin's '70's domination which took them to 3 straight Super Bowls- 1971, 1972 and 1973. Larry played 12 seasons with the Miami Dolphins where he earned All-Pro honors 6 times and was a Pro Bowl selection on 5 occasions. In addition to the many distinctions he earned, Larry was the first Floridian Miami Dolphin player to be inducted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame.

After Larry retired from football, he went to coach at his alma mater, Bethune Cookman University, from 1985-1991. Larry recently received an honorary Doctorate Degree (May 2014) from Bethune Cookman University.

In 1992, Larry became the first African American Coach of the World League, the Ohio Glory. He also served as Head Coach for North Carolina Central University from 1993-1998. In 1993, Larry was inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Off the field, Larry is a gentle giant who is compassionate about the South Florida community and youth. Over the years, he has received more than 200 community service awards. Larry operates the Larry Little Gold Coast Summer Camp for underprivileged kids in Miami Dade County.

From 2007-2012 he supported the ongoing restoration of the Historic Virginia Key Beach Park, a National Historic Site and South Florida landmark. He lends support to numerous nonprofit organizations, including the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Miami, the Swim for Jenny Memorial Fund, Youth Athletic Association of Palm Beach County and the Bethune Cookman University Larry Little Athletic Training Scholarship Fund. Each year the foundation grants over 20 scholarships to Miami Dade High School students.

PROGRAMS AND PARTNERS

The Larry Little Gold Coast Summer Camp/ Leadership Academy

The Larry Little Leadership Summer Camp is an initiative established to support the development of youth from undeserved communities of the City of Miami for the purpose of creating and inspiring tomorrow's leaders today.

The Foundation also supports football athletes from Miami Dade County High Schools.

Historic Virginia Key Beach Park

Larry Little was the only local sports celebrity supporting Historic Virginia Key Beach Park. The park, located in Miami, Florida, was established in 1945 as a "colored only" beach. The Larry Little Legends Golf Classic was launched in 2007 to help raise additional funds for ongoing capital improvements and educational programming- including park renovation, beach re-nourishment, environmental sciences youth projects and historic preservation projects.

Swim for Jenny Memorial Fund

This fund supports drowning prevention programming for kids at all Miami Dade County Parks. Lessons offered through this program educate children and their parents in water safety, swim technique and drowning prevention.

The "Swim for Jenny" Memorial Fund was established in honor of Jenny Hong Nguyen, who tragically lost her life in April 2011 in a drowning accident in Homestead, Florida. Jenny did not know how to swim. Swimming is an important life skill that every child should learn. The "Swim for Jenny" goal is simple and straightforward: teach every child in Miami-Dade County how to swim!

Miami Dade Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Each year Larry Little plays the role of Grand Marshall for the Annual Walkathon fundraiser. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Foundation.

Scholarship Programs

In 2020, over $40,000 was presented to High School students through Miami Dade County to assist with college expenses as well as funding for Bethune Cookman University students in need of financial assistance towards their tuition.
